The custom package play

A hospitality and golfing partnership in Traverse City bring the custom play to golfing pacakges.

Choice Hotels, Summerside Properties LLC, and more than 20 Traverse City area golf courses are teaming up once again to provide custom packages for golfers looking to plan a trip to the northern Michigan region. Working with Summerside Properties, visitors can custom design the duration of the trip, and where to play and stay at the participating destinations.

“We are the only lodging properties in Traverse City that do custom golf packages like this. We’ve been doing it for six years,” said Ron Robinson, director of operations at Summerside Properties, a premier hospitality management company.  “We have three Choice Hotels properties that we manage and work with: the Cambria Suites, Best Western Plus, and the Comfort Inn,”

Golfers will receive vouchers upon the time of their check-in at participating hotels for their play at area golf courses. Robinson also said having the three hotels and a great variety of golf courses in the area allows for different price points.

“We can do any course up here,” Robinson said. “If you have 20 people or eight people and they want to play five courses in five days and stay four nights, and they know the courses they want to play and have a list or if they need recommendations, we make it happen. We will make sure we find your price point and your level of golf and make all the arrangements.”

From the Cambria Hotel Traverse City, which is a Cambria hotels and suites brand and a seven-time recipient of Choice Hotels International’s Hotel of the Year Award; and the Best Western Plus, nestled at the base of Old Mission Peninsula and newly renovated; to the Comfort Inn Traverse City, a six-time Platinum Award Winner from Choice Hotels International; there are a diverse range of amenities and lodging opportunities for those seeking to stay and play in the region.

“If it’s a couple and the husband wants to play golf and the wife wants to do other things—that’s the best part about being in Traverse City,” Robinson said. “There is so much to do. We will help you make it happen.”

Robinson said a big addition in the last year was the direct flight established from the Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas areas to Traverse City. Shuttle service is also available for the golfers from the airport to the lodging partners involved.

“Basically, the golfer or golfers come to check-in, we give them their vouchers for the booked trip, and we take care of the settling things up with the courses,” Robinson said. “It’s really worked well for us and makes it easy for the golfers.”

Robinson said the courses range from the smaller golf facilities in the area to the many resort facilities.

“We’ve worked with Grand Traverse Resort, Arcadia Bluffs, Bay Harbor, A-Ga-Ming, Manitou Passage, Mistwood, The Crown, Elmbrook,” Robinson said. “We work with everybody really who has public access, and with some of the places we have negotiated discounted group rates. We suggest you make a list of where you want to play and we will see what we can do.”
