Golf is back Saturday, May 27 at Charlevoix Country Club

CHARLEVOIX – Charlevoix Country Club will open for golf on Saturday, May 27, under the management of A-Ga-Ming Resort in Kewadin.

Charlevoix Country Club, which suffered fire damage to the clubhouse last June, had not opened this year under its current ownership. Mike Brown, co-owner of A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort said he and partner Larry Lavely have reached an agreement to manage the golf course, fitness center, and popular wedding facility known as Shanahan’s Barn located on the property.

“We are managing it all this year with an option to purchase at any time,” said Brown. “We’re kicking the tires to see, and we’re already pretty deep into it. I would imagine we will be purchasing. That final decision just hasn’t been made yet.”

Brown said details are still in process, but he expected construction to rebuild a clubhouse would start in the fall. Meanwhile, a new clubhouse is in the plans at the Kewadin-based resort, and A-Ga-Ming is already promoting the Charlevoix CC golf course as a public resort venue with a new name: Heatherwoods Golf Club. Shanahan’s Barn has approximately 26 weddings on the books as well.

Heatherwoods would provide A-Ga-Ming with four golf courses at three sites under its management and ownership umbrella. The original Torch and Sundance courses are located at A-Ga-Ming in Kewadin, and the Antrim Dells course is in Ellsworth.

Brown said service at Heatherwoods will include the golf course and a snack shop with food items, beverages and alcohol beverages for sale. Service to members of Charlevoix CC will continue, and in the future be patterned after the way membership is at A-Ga-Ming.

Purchasing Heatherwoods, the fitness facility and wedding facility fits into future plans at A-Ga-Ming, where they will be adding lodging rooms in the next few years. Currently there are lodging options with 200 beds at A-Ga-Ming and plans to go to 350.

“The average golf package is just that, four rounds, and with this we can offer four courses within 25 miles,” said Brown.
