In Onaway, Michigan, at the tip of the lower peninsula Mitten State, Black Lake Golf Club’s relaxed atmosphere, abundant wildlife, and Rees Jones course serve a singular northern Michigan golf experience that gets better with its stay-and-play 2021 Tour Golf Package. The two-night, 63-hole golf package includes 18-hole rounds—with golf carts—at the nearby Gaylord Golf Club and Michaywé Pines Golf Course, as well as Black Lake’s own 18-hole course, nine-hole walking course, and two-night lodging at the UAW Black Lake Conference Center.
“We’ve been doing it now for about five years now; it’s something we put together with the Director of Golf at Gaylord Golf Club and Michaywé Pines. People are telling us it’s a great value and gets them the multi-day golf package playing different courses and that’s what they want. It’s great for groups of eight to 12 and up to 16,” said Nick Aune, general manager at Black Lake Golf Club.
The package runs through mid-October with prices falling as low as $184 per person into the fall. At each unique golf destination, players have a front row seat to picturesque landscapes as they change from sunny spots for wildlife and greenery in the summer to quiet, colorful retreats in the fall. The 2021 Tour Golf Package wraps up one of Black Lake’s best summers in its history, according to Aune, with a lot of new visitors attracted to the game for the first time, as well as the value of the late summer tour package. For Aune, early fall golf means the arrival of a beautiful seasonal shift that is appreciated by golfers far and wide.
“The big thing for us is the fall colors and one thing we missed last fall for example is Canadian traffic coming down. Now with the border opening for vaccinated people, we’re looking forward to increased play from our friends from Canada. The colors are fabulous and one of the other cool features around here is you are starting to see more wildlife, because the traffic is less. It’s a great way to enjoy a fall day,” Aune said.
