AUBURN HILLS – Topgolf International, a sports entertainment company, has broken ground in Michigan on a 65,000 square-foot facility that will house over 100 climate-controlled enclosed hitting bays from which golfers will hit shots with golf clubs and microchipped balls to an outdoor range with targets.
It is scheduled to open next winter at the corner of I-75 and Joslyn Rd. in Auburn Hills.
A Topgolf swing suite opened in 2017 inside the MGM Grand Detroit casino in part to promote the facility coming to Michigan.
Topgolf customers will be able to take part in point-scoring games by hitting targets placed at various distances up to 240 yards. The computer-measured accuracy and distance of shots is displayed on a television screen in the hitting bay. Customers will be allowed to bring their golf clubs or rent from the facility.
Topgolf said in a press release that the facility will serve food and drinks, and include big-screen televisions and provide music in the facility. It also said there will be events for kids, families, social leagues, tournaments and instruction available.
The Auburn Hills facility will create 500 full- and part-time jobs, the release said. Information on the company website said 51 percent of their customers in 40 current facilities around the world are non-golfers
The three-level venue also promises 3,000 square feet of private event space for corporate and social gatherings.
